Global Citizen Scholar Program

The future is changing. Are you ready?

Your university experience is about more than completing courses. It’s about understanding the world, your place in it and how you can contribute to something bigger.

A Global Citizen Scholar is a student who goes beyond disciplinary knowledge to think critically about the world, engage with complex local and global challenges, and contribute to positive change. Our Global Citizen Scholar Program helps you build the skills necessary, not just for your first job, but for whatever comes next.

What is the Global Citizen Scholar Program?

The Global Citizen Scholar Program is a free, flexible program you can take alongside your degree. It helps you develop real-world, cross-disciplinary skills that go beyond the classroom – skills you can actually use in your career and life.

Through the program, you’ll learn how to:

Program Structure

Whether you complete one skill cluster or all four, the program provides a flexible pathway to develop global citizenship competencies, connect with others and apply your learning in meaningful ways.

Four Skill Clusters

Develop key competencies through four skill clusters. Complete one or more clusters based on your interests or complete all four to earn the Global Citizen Scholar Certificate.

Flexible Learning

Complete each skill cluster in 20–24 hours, spending about one hour per week during most of the academic year. Progress at your own pace or complete one cluster per year of your degree.

Guest Speakers

Learn from changemakers making a positive impact in their communities and professions. Guest speakers share real-world insights on leadership, social impact, innovation and community engagement.

Blended Format

Complete most activities asynchronously in Brightspace on your own schedule. Attend optional workshops and speaker sessions during the year to build skills and be part of a supportive learning community.
