Opportunity

The newly launched De Chastelain Scholarship Programme, supported by the Governments of Ireland and Canada, offers awards of up to CAD $16,500 to support short research visits (3–6 weeks) between Canada and Ireland.

The programme is open to researchers and academics across all disciplines. While it is framed around peace and reconciliation, this is understood in its broadest sense — including the wider systems that underpin stable, thriving societies (e.g. governance, health, environment, culture, technology, and more).

Eighteen scholarships will be awarded each year, and through a single application process, awards are made to both Emerging Scholars (within seven years of PhD) and Established Scholars, with a significant proportion reserved for emerging researchers.

Eligibility

  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • hold a PhD, or demonstrate an established academic or research practice of equivalent standing
  • employed, enrolled, or otherwise formally affiliated with a recognised university

Funding

Each awardee will receive:

  • CAD $3,000 / € 1,875 as a contribution towards all transport costs associated with the visit — including international flights, airport transfers, local transport.
  • CAD $2,250 / €1,400 per week of scholarship (for up to 6 weeks), as a contribution to address accommodation, meals, meetings, and other incidental expenses during the visit.
