Background
The Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America (Fulbright Canada) is a binational, treaty-based, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization with a mandate to identify the best and brightest minds in both countries and engage them in residential academic exchange.
Opportunity
Canada-U.S. Fulbright awards offer a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of scholarly issues, including important contemporary issues that are relevant to Canada, to the United States, and to the relationship between the two countries. While the competition is officially field-open, we are especially keen to support scholars in the humanities, in the areas of communications and culture, in Canadian – American relations, in all areas of contemporary public policy, on topics relating to culture and to the environment, law, indigenous issues, and in pure and applied sciences. Please note that there are special competitions in certain areas and that these may vary over time and under particular circumstances.
Note: On Tuesday October 22nd, at 1:00pm EDT, Fulbright Canada held a Webinar that provided Canadian advisors, Canadian graduate students, and Canadian scholars with information about the Fulbright Program. We have recorded the webinar for anyone who was unable to attend, and have posted it . Please encourage anyone that might be interested to listen to it and learn more about the opportunities that available to them through Fulbright Canada. The webinar provides details on our eligibility requirements, programs for students and scholars, the timeline for application, enrichment opportunities, and how to prepare a competitive application.
Traditional Awards for Scholars: US$12,500
US$12,500 for one semester for 听emerging and established scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and experienced professionals to conduct research, teach, or undertake a combination of these activities. The Fulbright Scholar
Program is open to academics in all disciplines.听 The award may be held at any university, research center, think tank, or government agency in the United States.
Visiting Research Chairs for Canadian Scholars in the United States
US$25,000 for one semester for prominent and promising scholars and experienced professionals to conduct research develop partnerships, and guest lecture at select partner institutions.
Eligibility
- Canadian Citizenship (permanent resident and/or landed immigrant status are not sufficient)
- Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional degree, or have equivalent professional experience
- Proficiency in English
- Sabbatical, leave-of-absence, or retirement pay may be used concurrently with Fulbright awards

- Traditional Awards for Scholars: US$12,500 (one semester)
- Visiting Research Chairs for Canadian Scholars in the United States: $25,000 (for one semester)
