EURUS Professors Jeff Sahadeo, David Sichinava, as well as MA Student Baia Kotrikdaze published a policy brief entitled “Power and Protest: Georgians Fighting for their European Dream” through the Eastern European and Transatlantic Network (EETN).
Summary: Mass protests have spread across Georgia since Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced the ruling party鈥檚 intention to suspend negotiations to EU accession until 2028. Georgia鈥檚 population remains overwhelmingly pro-European and this announcement sparked high-level resignations and statements of opposition from within the government. As protests intensify, Georgia鈥檚 President, Salome Zurabishvili, has announced she will gather opposition to demand new, fair elections. The country risks sliding into chaos and violence.
