The Research Network on Trade Politics in North America and Europe (TRADEPOL) studies domestic and international contestation about trade policy. We examine how political mobilization in support or opposition of trade liberalization, as well as the increasing importance of geo-political concerns in international economic relations, reshape patterns of trade governance:

• How do policy actors—in government, business, labour, and civil society—navigate the evolving trade policy environment? Which actors gain influence, which ones lose out?
• Which policy issues—labour rights, climate action, migration, defence and security, Indigenous rights, etc.—become more important in trade-related debates, which ones are marginalized?
• Which new alliances form in domestic and international trade politics? What impact do these new constellations have on equity and inclusiveness in trade policy-making?

TRADEPOL is supported by an international partnership of universities, public sector institutions, business organizations, trade unions, and think tanks on both sides of the Atlantic. Our Network combines collaborative research with training, mobility, and policy dialogue activities. TRADEPOL is funded by the through a Partnership Grant (2026–33).
