The Research Network on Trade Politics in North America and Europe (TRADEPOL) brings together universities, government institutions, business associations, trade unions, and think tanks on both sides of the Atlantic. TRADEPOL’s mandate encompasses research, training, mobility, and policy dialogue activities.

TRADEPOL’s research focuses on evolving patterns of trade governance at a time of increased societal contestation and geo-politicization of international economic relations. Our research groups address these questions with a focus on policy actors, policy issues linked to trade, and political alliances/conflicts that shape trade-related decision-making. TRADEPOL will establish a Trade Politics Database that maps public debates about trade in news media sources and publications by civil society organizations over a twenty-year period (2013–32).

TRADEPOL’s training and mobility initiatives support students and policy practitioners through summer schools, professional exchanges, and internships that strengthen connections between academic and non-academic institutions. TRADEPOL also organizes policy outreach and networking initiatives that foster dialogue between academics and policy-makers. We thus build capacity that leads to more informed policy-making and public discourse on trade issues.

TRADEPOL is housed in ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ University’s Centre for European Studies. The Network is funded by the through a Partnership Grant (2026–33), and by contributions from the partner organizations.
