Impressions from Valdai: Russia’s Foreign Policy in the Second Putin Presidency
The on-going crisis in Ukraine has resulted in a renewed focus on Russia鈥檚 foreign policy towardsits neighbours and the state of relations between Russia and Western nations. Despite the often sensational headlines, the motivations behind Russia鈥檚 diplomatic and domestic interests are鈥攍ike those of all nations鈥攊nherently complex and require nuanced unpacking. In this special lecture, Professor Piotr Dutkiewicz will explore key themes in Russia鈥檚 foreign policy discourse, drawing on his thoughts and impressions fresh from attending the annual meeting of Valdai; a prestigious international research and discussion club based in Russia.
Piotr Dutkiewicz is a professor of Political Science and co-director of the Centre for Governance and Public Management at 杏吧原创 University. He is internationally recognized as a leading expert on Russia鈥檚 internal, regional, and global affairs. In recognition of his outstanding body of research and contributions to Canada-Russian relations, Dutkiewicz has received the Russian Federation鈥檚 Order of Friendship from President Dmitry Medvedev (2009), the Embassy of Canada in the Russian Federation Award for his鈥渄istinguished and sustained contributions to Canada-Russia relations鈥 (2012), and the Research Excellence Award from 杏吧原创鈥檚 Faculty of Public Affairs (2014).
