As promised, we are running a special four-day video skills workshop (running Sept. 26-27 and Oct. 3-4). Students who were on the advanced video waitlist will get first crack at registering for this free workshop led by L. Manuel Baechlin and Dave Elliott.
First, we need to make sure we have enough folks registered to justify going ahead. On an urgent basis, can you please register below. Students who were on the advanced video waitlist will get the first chance to register for the workshop, then we鈥檒l open it up to other BJ4s and MJ2 students.
Baechlin is an accomplished videographer who has recently been working as solo video producer for The Narwhal, an award-winning magazine focused on the environment. He writes, films, edits and animates explainer videos for the website, social media and YouTube.
The goal of this workshop is for students to leave with one vertical video that they are proud of. They will learn the basics of writing for videos (thinking about visuals in a story first and then writing to it), how to gather material and identify what can be found online vs. gathered in person, how to edit footage together and embrace the vertical format; thinking about ways to keep a story engaging with sound, cuts, and text. We鈥檒l have a lesson on Adobe Premiere and how to connect it with After Effects. Students will learn simple animation skills to step up their videos. We鈥檒l walk through key frames, speed graphs and textures.
Students should be prepared for intensive sessions. Each day includes six hours of class work, with one hour break for lunch, etc. (9am EST – 12pm EST) and (1pm EST – 4pm EST).
Students are encouraged to practice video skills during the week in-between workshops, and email the instructor should they have any questions. Links to video editing tutorials will also be shared.
