Professor David Dean’s edited collection of essays on the early 17^th century witchcraft play The Witch of Edmonton has just appeared in the journal ). Bringing together historians and theatre scholars to offer new insights into this extraordinary play, his introduction offers “histories and contexts” to the play which he explored with many fourth-year history and humanities students in his early modern witchcraft seminar taught in recent years. As well as his own article on “blasphemy, swearing, and bad behaviour”, the issue has articles on “women, marriage, property and law” (Tim Stretton), “witchcraft, inversion, and social criticism” (Susan Amussen) and “emotions” (Kathryn Prince).
