First Shannon Lecture a Success!

First Shannon Lecture on expo67
It takes a hot topic for people to forgo the beautiful weather we鈥檝e been having, but the first Shannon lecture of this fall鈥檚 series on Expo 67 drew an enthusiastic crowd to the library鈥檚 Discovery Centre on September 22nd. Dr. Gary Miedema, author ofFor Canada鈥檚 Sake: Public Religion, Centennial Celebrations, and the Re-making of Canada in the 1960s provided a critical overview of the political and cultural forces that shaped Expo 67 and made it such a stunning success. His talk set the stage for subsequent series lectures on Expo 67 and Quebec (Friday, October 13), Indigenous art at the Indians of Canada Pavilion (Friday, November 3), and the fair鈥檚 avant-garde architecture (Friday, November 17) and film (Friday, December 1). Here series organizer Paul Litt presents Dr. Miedema (left) with a laminated plaque featuring the poster announcing his lecture.
