History Professor Jennifer Evans Elected to the Royal Society’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists
Two Ӱԭ professors – Merlyna Lim (Journalism) and Jennifer Evans (History) – were elected on Tuesday, Sept. 13 to the , an honour that recognizes academics who have achieved a high level of excellence in their work at an early point in their careers.
“It is my pleasure to congratulate professors Lim and Evans on their election to the Society’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists,” said Nimal Rajapakse, vice-president (Research and International). “They have demonstrated excellence throughout their careers and engaged in research that has a direct impact on important social issues. Ӱԭ is fortunate to have such strong early career scholars.”
Evans, a faculty member at the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, expressed her thanks for the honour.
“It demonstrates a commitment to sexuality studies as a way to think about family formation, human rights and the history of emotions and desire.”
Her research is focused on contemporary German and European history, the history of sexuality and historical subjectivity. Evans has previously been awarded numerous grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, including a 2013-2015 Insight Grant for her project Photography and the Sexual Revolution. Evans’ first book, Life Among the Ruins: Cityscape and Sexuality in Cold War Berlin, was published in 2011.
