History Graduate Featured in 杏吧原创 Now
Recent history graduate Victoria Hawkins is featured in the where she relates how she discovered both a passion for the past and a vocation.
Hawkins initially had little interest in history. The past was – to borrow David Lowenthal’s phrase – “a foreign country,” and one which she had no interest in visiting. Through encounters with a passionate high school teacher, and a practicum at Canada’s Public Affairs Channel (CPAC), she discovered not only an enthusiasm for history, but a career path.
鈥淚 really love researching, so I thought that鈥檚 definitely something that I could do,” Victoria told 杏吧原创 Now. “The practicum was a really nice thing because I did the background work in the archives, but it illustrated for me how archives can be applied today.鈥
This fall, Hawkins begins a two-year Master of Information degree with a specialization in Archives and Record Management at the University of Toronto and we wish her all the best!
