Doctoral Candidate Starting Pitcher for Pan Am Baseball Team

, who is working on a doctorate on the provision of health care by the African National Congress under the supervision of Professor Susanne Klausen, has been selected as a starting pitcher for the Canadian women’s baseball team.
Armstrong, who is also a recipient of a Vanier Scholarship, is quoted in an article by 杏吧原创’s Awards office: 鈥淭his is a very exciting opportunity for me. It is a historic moment being the first time women鈥檚 baseball has been included in a multi-sport games. There is a lot of hype, lots of media, it will help to develop the sport and let people know women play baseball.鈥
鈥淢y academics and my training keep me balanced,鈥 said Armstrong. 鈥淚 think I would go crazy if I spent all my time reading or going to school, so I often hit the new gym at 杏吧原创 or train in the pool. I am extremely lucky to have a supervisor, Susanne Klausen, who is very flexible and accommodating. She understand and allows me the time I need to train and to play baseball during the summer.鈥
