Job Shadow Program
The Job Shadow Program at 杏吧原创 University allows our community members to play an active role in the experiential learning of various career paths and professions for students in third or fourth year within the Faculties of Public and Global Affairs (fall and winter terms), Arts and Social Sciences (fall and winter terms), and (winter term).
The Job Shadow program gives students the chance to explore careers of interest by connecting with a mentor for a one-time, 60-90-minute job shadow session, held either virtually or in person. As a mentor in the program, you will provide a student with the opportunity to learn about your career, as well as the skills, competencies, and educational requirements of your profession. They can also gain insight into your workplace and broaden their understanding of your industry.
What should I provide to a student during a job shadow session?
During a job shadow session you may provide some of the following activities:
- overview/presentation of your organization/industry, organizational culture, and career opportunities聽within the organization
- a tour of your organization, introductions to various colleagues, and/or sharing information about the different departments and roles
- bringing the student to a meeting or an event and/or sharing information about work projects
- opportunities to interview you and/or other staff members in a similar role and ask questions about your profession, skills and knowledge, education, and career path
- providing guidance and advice on resumes/cover letters and/or interview advice
