颁补谤濒别迟辞苍鈥檚听L别补谤苍颈苍驳听M补苍补驳别尘别苍迟听S测蝉迟别尘听(尝惭厂)听is changing in May 2021.听Starting May 1, all courses will be offered on听Brightspace听by D2L.听Here are听five听迟丑颈苍驳蝉听instructors听need to know about migrating听existing听course content from听cuLearn听to听the new LMS ahead of听campus-wide听access to Brightspace听on Feb. 16.听听
1. Most cuLearn听content听will听be听migrated for听instructors
ITS is working with听D2L听to migrate听five听years鈥� worth听of听cuLearn听course content to听Brightspace听by June 1.听If听you鈥檝e taught in the past听five听years using听cuLearn, your content will be migrated for you听and available听for review听in Brightspace.听As of today,听more than three听years of content has already been transferred.听
Your听cuLearn听content will be available as a backup course听in Brightspace听for you to access and review.听Many basic activities and course resources migrate smoothly to Brightspace, while some do not. We recommend reviewing your migrated content to see if it makes sense to revise what鈥檚 there or to start fresh in the new LMS.听听听
If you鈥檇 like to use听your existing听content, you will need to import the course components from the backup Brightspace course into your new听Brightspace听course. You can find听instructions for copying course content听on听our听Instructor听Support听site.听听听

2. Instructor support is听available for听migrated听content
A new听LMS听offers an excellent opportunity to rethink your teaching and learning. In some cases, it may make sense to start fresh in your course and听to听bring in selected content, rather than trying to听reuse and听rebuild听all听older content. To听help听you with your course development, TLS has created a听cuLearn听(Moodle) to Brightspace Tool Crosswalk. Check out this page to see听tool equivalencies, common issues and solutions to migration challenges.听
听Many basic activities and course resources migrate smoothly to Brightspace without issue. Some course elements do not.听Plan to review your migrated content and decide听whether听it makes sense to use some, all or none of听it in the new system.听听
Remember, TLS staff are available to help you find solutions to your course needs. If your course activities and content don鈥檛 migrate well,听reach out听to听us听to find alternatives.
3. cuLearn听access听will听continue听throughout 2021
Instructors, students and staff will be able to access听data, content and files from听cuLearn听throughout听the summer and听fall听terms. Access to听cuLearn听will continue through the regular听cuLearn听login portal听using your MC1 credentials.听听
While you will still be able to access content and information, no new users or courses will be added to听cuLearn听past May 2021. Beginning May 1, all courses will be offered in听听
4. Migrated content should be reviewed and may need clean up
TLS is here to support you no matter what your course plans are. If you decide to fully migrate and revise your content, we can help you with a consultation. Perhaps you鈥檇 like to import some older course elements, but not all. We鈥檇 be happy to answer any questions you have. You might want to start fresh and explore the interface from a new perspective. Brightspace has new integrations and functionality that weren鈥檛 available in听cuLearn. Regardless of your course setup approach, we鈥檙e here to answer your questions.听
If you are thinking of using your migrated content, we recommend that you review the 鈥渂ackup- moodle2-鈥︹�� course in Brightspace which contains your听cuLearn听content.听
You鈥檒l notice the migrated content looks different and some course elements don鈥檛 migrate well. 听You鈥檒l want to review the content to see what has come across, how it looks, and what is听 missing. Use the听cuLearn (Moodle) to Brightspace Tool Crosswalk听support page to guide your听 review.听
Prior to copying the听cuLearn听content to your Brightspace course, clean up the content by听 removing redundancies and broken links.听 If you want assistance with reviewing your content,听 please complete the听Course Consultation Request Form.
5. Training is available
Brightspace Basics workshops will be ongoing throughout听spring and听summer 2021. Exploring the Brightspace interface in training will allow you to better understand your migrated content.听You鈥檒l see technical demonstrations, hear about available resources and get answers to your听course听questions. You will learn the new LMS and have a better sense of where to get started with your course design. In addition to Brightspace Basics workshops, TLS will be expanding workshop offerings to include听intermediate/advanced听training sessions听as well. Check the听TLS events听page听regularly听and sign up for a session.听
If the training topic you鈥檙e looking for isn鈥檛 listed yet, try visiting the听听for helpful videos on most topics.听Remember, some navbars and menus in听the听tutorial videos may not be the same as 杏吧原创鈥檚 menus and navbars.
