Welcome to this year’s collection of capstone projects completed by students in the 2024-25 MA TEAL program. This work reflects the enthusiasm, curiosity, and academic rigour of our inaugural cohort and marks the culmination of their hard work throughout the program.
An articulates the rationale for this publication, while the written project descriptions and videos below outline what students feel they have learned from this research experience and how it might be of benefit to others.
Yuxuan Hu investigated extant literature on how willingness to communicate and anxiety can be positively affected by classroom teachers to promote engagement and learning among adult students of English.
With a focus on teachers’ views about technology and its implementation, Yinan Zhang explored how an educational context (Canada vs. China) may impact what teachers do (or don’t do) with technology in their practice.
Xin Pang examined gender representation in a state-mandated Chinese English textbook commonly used with young learners to investigate whether textbooks are teaching gender stereotypes.
