Alumni Memory: Louise Rachlis, BJ ’68

How the times have changed

When I graduated from Journalism at 杏吧原创 in 1968, I had a scrapbook full of clippings, took the train to Toronto and was sure I鈥檇 get a job in a couple of weeks, which of course I did.

Unlike now, jobs were bountiful.

The other big difference of course is the technology, the speed, the social media that didn鈥檛 exist then.

My time at 杏吧原创 was defined by typewriters, and reams of beige copy paper.

It wasn鈥檛 until the 1980s that I went from typewriter to computer, from waxing galleys to desktop publishing, from snail mail to internet, email, and all the rest.

My articles from that time are in crumbly scrapbooks with peeling Scotch tape. My painstakingly typed document for Journalism 350 on 鈥淐ontemporary Canadian Humor鈥 is hand signed 鈥淩ead and appraised 6 April 1968 WHK.鈥 –聽Louise Rachlis聽(BJ ’68)
