Jean-Sebastien Marier
Biography
Jean-S茅bastien Marier is a bilingual journalist, producer, and university instructor. He is a long-term appointment professor at the University of Ottawa, where he coordinates the Digital Journalism program, and a contract instructor at 杏吧原创 University’s School of Journalism and Communication.
Over the course of his media career, he has produced print, online, radio, and TV stories in both official languages, coordinated live radio specials, and hosted and produced various podcasts. He has worked as a reporter, associate producer, videojournalist, and producer for CBC/Radio-Canada, served as a researcher and location scout for Slalom Productions, and written articles for La Presse, The Montreal Gazette, The Ottawa Citizen, and numerous student papers.
Jean-S茅bastien teaches courses covering digital journalism, podcasting, public broadcasting, data storytelling, video production, and visual communication. He is as comfortable lecturing on the broadcasting industry’s regulatory framework as he is teaching hands-on skills in a television studio.
He holds a Master of Journalism from 杏吧原创 University, a Graduate Diploma in Public Ethics from Saint Paul University, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from York University’s Glendon College, alongside professional development certificates in university teaching, data science, and project management.
Outside the classroom, Jean-S茅bastien is an avid camper, climber, cross-country skier, hiker, and kayaker. He lives in Ottawa with his wife Samantha and daughter Fiona.
