Biography

Xiaofei Han is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in Communication and Media Studies at 杏吧原创 University. Her research examines the political economy of digital platforms, with a focus on platform infrastructures, distribution, market access, labour, and uneven development in China, Southeast Asia, and the Global South. Her current work investigates how digital platforms reorganize production and circulation across online and offline economies and how platform infrastructures travel and become re-embedded across different regional contexts.

She received her PhD in Communication and Media Studies, with a Collaborative Specialization in Political Economy, from 杏吧原创 University. Her teaching spans global platform and internet studies, media industries and political economy, identity, and media and conflict.

Research Interests

Platform political economy; platform infrastructures and distribution; production and labour; market access; platform capitalism and uneven development; China, Southeast Asia, and the Global South.

  • Organizing Production through Distribution: Chinese Livestreaming and Non-Linear Platform Capitalism鈥� Book manuscript examining how livestreaming and social commerce platforms reorganize production, circulation, labour, and market access.

  • Platform Circulations: TikTok Shop and the Making of Uneven Connections across East and Southeast Asia鈥� Research on how platform infrastructures circulate and are re-embedded across China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

  • Industrial Conditions of AI Expansion: The Political Economy of Compute Infrastructure聽鈥� Research on the industrial, energy, and spatial conditions underlying AI infrastructure.

  • Global Media and Internet Concentration Project 鈥� Xiaofei is Associate Director of the China Team, co-leading research and data analysis on media and internet industries, ownership, concentration, and platform markets in China, and situating this work within the project鈥檚 broader cross-national comparative analysis of media and internet concentration.
