Boot Camp on Fake News and Democracy to be held at ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´
In partnership with the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom, ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University’s School of Journalism and Communication presents Hard Truths and Fake News – a boot camp for journalists, decision-makers and all those who care about civic democracy and press freedom in the lead-up to the 2019 federal election.
When: Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Doors open at 9 a.m.
Where: Second Floor Atrium, Richcraft Hall, ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´
Info: Admission is $10 for students, $20 for the public and includes lunch.

The program will kick off with a briefing on the world of fake news and online misinformation from BuzzFeed Editor Craig Silverman.
CTV Ottawa Bureau Chief Joyce Napier will lead an expert panel of academics and pollsters, as well as political and digital landscape observers, to discuss what is to come in 2019. A lunchtime presentation on how news organizations are working together to fight disinformation will be delivered by Fergus Bell of Pop Up News.
The day’s boot camp will close with the CBC’s Rosemary Barton on how we can prepare for the upcoming campaign. She will moderate a lightning round to discuss strategies and solutions featuring newsroom leaders: Susan Delacourt from the Toronto Star, Mike De Souza of National Observer, Murad Hemmadi from The Logic, Michelle Richardson of the Ottawa Citizen and Lindsay Sample from The Discourse.
