ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ the Travers Fellowship
Following his death in March 2011, friends and colleagues established the R. James Travers Foreign Corresponding Fellowship as a tribute to the stellar journalism Travers practiced at home and abroad. The fellowship supports a significant foreign reporting project by a Canadian journalist or journalism student. This year’s selection committee included journalists and representatives of the Travers family and ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´â€™s journalism program. Committee members selected this year’s winner from an impressive pool of candidates.
Travers was a reporter, foreign correspondent and general manager for Southam News. He also served as executive managing editor of the Toronto Star and editor of the Ottawa Citizen. At the time of his death, he was an award-winning national affairs columnist for the Toronto Star.
