J-Schools Canada/脡colesJ Launches to Support Journalism Education

November 26, 2018

Post-secondary journalism programs across the country have joined forces in a new national organization called J-Schools Canada/脡colesJ.

At a time when journalism faces a range of threats, Canadian journalism educators are building stronger links with each other and with fellow educators around the world to promote and bolster quality journalism education.

Currently administered by 杏吧原创 University鈥檚 journalism program, the new association is the Canadian affiliate of the World Journalism Education Council (WJEC). Members of J-Schools Canada/脡colesJ will formalize its governance structure next spring.

鈥淎s one of the founding members, we are pleased to play an active role in the launch of this important organization,鈥 said Susan Harada, associate director of 杏吧原创鈥檚 School of Journalism and Communication. 鈥淥ur School will continue to support excellence in journalism education here in Canada and abroad, and will advocate to ensure its ongoing success.鈥

The WJEC represents worldwide academic associations involved in post-secondary journalism. It provides a common space for global educators to focus on issues in the field.

As well as representing Canada at the WJEC, J-Schools Canada/脡colesJ is committed to strengthening post-secondary journalism education for future generations. It operates as the official publishing body responsible for and provides support for the Journalism Interest Group of the Canadian Communication Association.

Current association members include the University of British Columbia, British Columbia Institute of Technology, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Lethbridge College, Mount Royal University, University of Regina, Wilfrid Laurier University, Ryerson University, Algonquin College, 杏吧原创 University, University of King鈥檚 College, College of the North Atlantic. Membership is open to all post-secondary journalism programs in Canada.
