Migration and Diaspora Studies (MDS) interdisciplinary graduate programs combine cutting edge academic inquiry into social, cultural, political, and economic aspects of the movement of people with valuable experiential learning opportunities. As a student in Migration and Diaspora Studies, you will gain an understanding of migration and diaspora as central phenomena in our globally interconnected world. You will study issues such as refugee movements, immigration

and social and economic integration, forced migration, labor migration, migrant communities, social and cultural identities, diversity and policies of multiculturalism, dynamics of inclusion and exclusion, literature, exile and memory.

Migration and Diaspora Studies offers a Master of Arts degree and a Graduate Diploma program. The graduate programs are available on a full-time or part-time basis.

The Migration and Diaspora Studies Graduate programs draw on the expertise of over 40 internationally-recognized scholars working in these fields drawing on a variety of disciplinary perspectives. The Migration and Diaspora Studies faculty are an active and highly engaged community of scholars who are engaged in cutting edge research projects and have substantial research networks. When you join Migration and Diaspora Studies, you become part of this community and can benefit from the many workshops, lectures, and events organized by the Migration and Diaspora Studies community, that bring academics and practitioners into dialogue.

Migration and Diaspora Studies offers valuable experiential learning opportunities including a co-operative education placement option (full-time paid employment) during your studies as well as a practicum option that is available to full-time and part-time graduate students in the MA or diploma programs.
