Jennifer Hyndman is Professor and Coordinator of the Global Geography Program in the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University. She is also聽Resident Scholar at York鈥檚聽 (CRS) where she is past Director (2013-2019). Hyndman鈥檚 research focuses on international responses to humanitarian disasters, including both the geopolitics of displacement and the biopolitics of managing refugee-migrants, as well as refugee settlement in Canada. Current research projects probe 1) how private refugee sponsorship is sustained over time in Canadian communities, and the motivations of sponsors and the meanings they attach to the work they do; 2) longitudinal research exploring the well-being, inclusion, and integration of Syrians who came to BC, Ontario and Quebec in 2015-2016, and 3) LERRN.
In December 2020, York University appointed Jennifer as Associate Vice-President Research. In her new role, Jennifer will help facilitate the promotion of strategic research development at York and lead the development of research policy that bridges the needs of researchers and the institution.
