
Ayse Irem Karaba臒 (she/they) is a PhD candidate in English Studies at York University. Her research focuses on contemporary queer refugee writing across the world and the connection between literature, protest, borders and migration.
Prior to arriving at York, Irem completed her Master鈥檚 degree in English and Transcultural Studies from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Her MA thesis focused on the 鈥渟lacking鈥 practices of white-collar workers in contemporary literature. In 2017, she received her BA from Bogazici University, Istanbul.
Irem is passionate about sharing knowledge, creating fair research practices, and building solidarity networks. She is committed to LERRN鈥檚 mission to break down barriers and bridge knowledge gaps in forced migration and critical refugee studies.
