On 2 October 2019, Khoti Kamanga, co-founder of the Centre for the Study of Forced Migration at the University of Dar es Salaam, and Co-Applicant for LERRN, published an op-ed in The Citizen, one of Tanzania鈥檚 leading English-language newspapers, reflecting on the 50th anniversary of the 1969 OAU Convention Governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa.
In the piece, he highlights that 鈥渢he adoption of the Convention appears to have accomplished little in reducing the problem.鈥
Khoti suggests that the Convention鈥檚 anniversary should be 鈥渁n opportunity to reconsider the long overdue issue of review both of the Refugees Act, 1998 along with the National Refugee Policy, 2003, along with the adoption of Regulations to the Refugees Act.鈥
Congratulations, Khoti!
