Study Tour Dates:聽 May 16-June 4, 2010

The European Union (EU) Study Tour is a joint initiative of the European Studies Network (Canada), a consortium of Canadian universities of which 杏吧原创 is a member. The Tour consists of 19-20 days in Europe, involving consultations at a wide range of European institutions in Brussels, Strasbourg, Luxembourg, and Frankfurt. Students participating in the Tour may apply to participate in an internship (2 months or more) in a European institution; internships take place after the Tour. 聽Internships are unpaid, however the Network hopes to provide a travel grant to successful internship applicants, dependent on confirmation of funding.

Application procedure: Applications to the Tour are made through each participating university. 聽For 杏吧原创 students, applications are to be submitted 聽by January 22, 2010 to EURUS, Attn: Joan DeBardeleleben, 1311 Dunton Tower, with 鈥淓U Study Tour鈥 indicated clearly on the envelope. Your application should consist of: a letter of application, indicating your interest in the Tour and previous work in European studies or European integration studies; a letter of support from one faculty member; and a copy of your transcript for the past two years.聽 Additional materials may be requested. Please indicate whether you would like to apply for an internship position.

Eligibility: Graduate students from any 杏吧原创 program, and undergraduate students who have completed their 3rd year of study by the end of the 2009-10 term are invited to apply.聽 All applicants should have some course background in EU or contemporary European studies.

Course registration (0.5 credit) 聽in EURR聽 5302 or another designated course聽 is required (summer session). Undergraduate students may register for a 4000-level version of the course. The associated course may involve meetings, readings, and written assignments before and after the Tour.

Cost: The cost of the Tour is approximately $3000 (subject to adjustment based on exchange rate). This does not include airfare or any fees in Canada; only a portion of meals in Europe are provided. The Centre for European Studies will provide some grants to cover part of the cost for students with financial need, applications due February 12, 2010. Once you submit your application for the Tour, you will be notified of how to apply.

Internships: A separate application for internships is required. The date for receipt of internship applications is February 28, 2010. However, you must have been accepted to the EU Study Tour to be eligible to apply for an internship.聽聽 Priority for internships is given to graduate students; fourth year undergraduate students are also eligible.
