Workshop: The EU and Canada in the Face of Changing US Global Policy

The Jean Monnet Network on EU-Canada Relations is pleased to host a one-day policy workshop, The EU and Canada in the Face of Changing US Global Policy.
Until the present time, the Canada-EU strategic partnership has generally taken place in the shadow of the United States. However, the new EU-Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) and Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) have set the EU relationship on a ground-breaking course. This policy workshop will assess an intuitive feeling that many experts share: given recent tendencies in US foreign policy, Canada and the EU may need to take a more innovative and active role in sustaining multilateral initiatives. This process of re-evaluation and reflection occurs just as a broader reconfiguration of global alliances is under way. This involves challenges to the post-war liberal international order, the rising influence of the BRICS countries, increasing tensions between Russia and the West, and the intensification of environmental and security dilemmas. Leading experts will discuss whether and how the EU-Canada strategic partnership may provide an effective response to the evolving situation.
This event is an activity of the Jean Monnet Network on EU-Canada Relations, co-funded by the Erasmus Plus program of the European Union, by the Faculty of Public Affairs of 杏吧原创 University, by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and by partner universities.
