ACT aims to close the employment gap for students with disabilities by developing and delivering a full suite of career development services for ACT students from all faculties and for the central Career Services office. Adaptive care is central to ACT Services. Through individualized and ongoing career readiness support, including specialized guidance on disclosure, workplace accommodations, and disability-related workplace themes, ACT fosters a student-centered environment that honours lived experiences and promotes dignity. Using adaptive and creative strategies, ACT empowers students to advocate for their needs, build employability, and succeed in the workplace.

Transferable skills are those that you acquire and develop through experience, and transfer to a future employment opportunity. Examples include: &�Բ�����;

The ACT intake process allows you to discuss your: &�Բ�����;

• Interest in taking part in the Accessible Career Transitions (ACT) Program; &�Բ�����;

The intake appointment also allows you to meet a member of the ACT staff team, and to familiarize yourself with the supports that are available to you through ACT.  &�Բ�����;

The intake is not a formal interview, it is intended to be a relaxed conversation about the ACT Program and about your skills and interests; the process usually takes about 50 minutes. &�Բ�����;

No. Registering with the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (PMC) is a great way for students with disabilities at �Ӱ�ԭ�� to connect with a community of supportive folks (such as a Disabilities Coordinator) who can assist you with your academic journey at �Ӱ�ԭ��. &�Բ�����;

However, you do not need to be registered with the PMC to take part in ACT. ACT works with students who identify with having disabilities at �Ӱ�ԭ��. If you identify with having a disability and are a current �Ӱ�ԭ�� student you may be eligible to participate!  &�Բ�����;

There are two ways to register with ACT:  

1. Complete ACT’s online registration form: /act/register-with-act/     

Email ACT@carleton.ca with your name, student number, and the nature of your request (for example, “I’m interested in registering with ACT”) 

All current �Ӱ�ԭ�� students who identify with having a disability are eligible for ACT. Students may be enrolled at any level of education. There are no course load or CGPA requirements to participate.  

ACT is available to current �Ӱ�ԭ�� students, up to their official convocation date. As a �Ӱ�ԭ�� Alum, you have access to any of the supports available through Career Services.  &�Բ�����;

Career Counsellors – Pre-booked appointments, Referral Only: Approximately 50 minutes &�Բ�����;
In these appointments Career Counsellors can help you: &�Բ�����;

• Explore personal interests, skills, values, experiences, and aspirations and how these factor into choosing the right educational programs and/or career options &�Բ�����;

• Through conducting, reviewing, and interpreting career assessments to explore interests and preferences and how those relate to real world opportunities &�Բ�����;

• Develop strategic career goals and discuss effective decision making strategies while you review career options and/or further education &�Բ�����;

• Plan and prepare to job search, through discussion of networking techniques as well as the stresses/challenges therein  &�Բ�����;

• Prepare for job or graduate school interviews and identify effective strategies to respond to interview questions &�Բ�����;

• Evaluate CV’s and/or personal statements in preparation for graduate school applications &�Բ�����;

Career Consultants – Pre-booked (virtual, phone or in-person) appointments or Drop In (in-person) appointments: Approximately 30 minutes &�Բ�����;
In these sessions, Career Consultants can: &�Բ�����;

• Help you to identify your skills and evaluate which resume style would be best suited to showcase those skills and experiences &�Բ�����;

• Review and provide feedback on CVs and cover letters &�Բ�����;

• Discuss job search and networking strategies and help you move forward with your search &�Բ�����;

• Examine interview preparation strategies and discuss how to effectively structure interview responses  &�Բ�����;

• Conduct mock interviews to get you prepared for your actual job interview &�Բ�����;
