ACT aims to close the employment gap for students with disabilities by developing and delivering a full suite of career development services for ACT students from all faculties and for the central Career Services office. Adaptive care is central to ACT Services. Through individualized and ongoing career readiness support, including specialized guidance on disclosure, workplace accommodations, and disability-related workplace themes, ACT fosters a student-centered environment that honours lived experiences and promotes dignity. Using adaptive and creative strategies, ACT empowers students to advocate for their needs, build employability, and succeed in the workplace.

The ACT intake process allows you to discuss your:鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Interest in taking part in the Accessible Career Transitions (ACT)鈥疨rogram;鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- 础肠补诲别尘颈肠鈥痯谤辞驳谤补尘;鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- 笔谤别惫颈辞耻蝉鈥痚尘辫濒辞测尘别苍迟鈥痟颈蝉迟辞谤测;鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Skills, abilities, interests, and鈥痵trengths;鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Anticipated workplace accommodations;鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Career goals鈥&苍产蝉辫;

The intake appointment also allows you to meet a member of the ACT staff team, and to familiarize yourself with the supports that are available to you through ACT.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
The intake is not a formal鈥痠nterview,鈥痠t is intended to be a relaxed conversation about the ACT Program and about your skills and interests; the process usually takes about 50 minutes.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

No. Registering with the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (PMC) is鈥痑 great way鈥痜or students with disabilities at 杏吧原创 to connect with a community of supportive folks (such as a Disabilities Coordinator) who can鈥痑ssist鈥痽ou with your academic journey at 杏吧原创.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
However, you do not need to be registered with the PMC鈥痶o鈥痶ake part in ACT. ACT鈥痺orks with students who identify with having disabilities at 杏吧原创. If you identify with having a disability and are a current 杏吧原创 student you may be eligible to鈥痯articipate!鈥&苍产蝉辫;

There are two ways to register with ACT:
- Complete ACT鈥檚 online registration form: /act/register-with-act/
Email ACT@carleton.ca with your name, student number, and the nature of your request (for example, 鈥淚鈥檓 interested in registering with ACT鈥)

All current 杏吧原创 students who identify with having a disability are eligible for ACT. Students may be enrolled at any level of education. There are no course load or CGPA requirements to participate.

ACT is available to current 杏吧原创 students, up to their official convocation date.鈥疉s a 杏吧原创 Alum, you have access to any of the supports available through Career Services.鈥&苍产蝉辫;
Career Counsellors 鈥 Pre-booked appointments, Referral Only: Approximately 50 minutes鈥&苍产蝉辫;
In these appointments Career Counsellors can help you:鈥&苍产蝉辫;- Explore personal interests, skills, values, experiences, and aspirations and how鈥痶hese factor鈥痠nto choosing the right educational programs and/or career options鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Through conducting, reviewing, and interpreting career assessments to explore interests and preferences and how those relate to real world opportunities鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Develop strategic career goals and discuss effective鈥痙ecision making鈥痵trategies while you review career options and/or further education鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Plan and prepare to job search, through discussion of networking techniques as well as the stresses/challenges鈥痶herein鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Prepare for job or graduate school interviews and鈥痠dentify鈥痚ffective strategies to respond to interview questions鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Evaluate CV鈥檚 and/or personal statements in preparation for graduate school applications鈥&苍产蝉辫;

Career Consultants 鈥 Pre-booked (virtual, phone or in-person) appointments or Drop In (in-person) appointments: Approximately 30 minutes鈥&苍产蝉辫;
In these sessions, Career Consultants can:鈥&苍产蝉辫;- Help you to鈥痠dentify鈥痽our skills and evaluate which resume style would be best suited to鈥痵howcase鈥痶hose skills and experiences鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Review and provide feedback on CVs and cover letters鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Discuss job search and networking strategies and help you move forward with your search鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Examine interview preparation strategies and discuss how to effectively structure interview responses鈥&苍产蝉辫;
- Conduct mock interviews to get you prepared for your actual job interview鈥&苍产蝉辫;
