SPPA Professors Receive 2024 SSHRC Awards for Innovative Research Projects

The School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA) is proud to announce that four of our distinguished professors have been awarded the 2024 Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grants. These grants underscore the exceptional quality and impact of research being conducted at SPPA.

Dr. Vivian Hoffmann: Insight Development Grant

Dr. Vivian Hoffmann has been awarded the Insight Development Grant for her pioneering project titled 鈥淏uilding and Activating Social Norms Through Personal Climate Emissions Feedback鈥. This prestigious grant will support her groundbreaking research aimed at empowering individuals to understand and reduce their personal climate impact by leveraging social norms. Dr. Hoffmann鈥檚 project promises to make significant strides in fostering environmentally conscious behaviors and promoting sustainability.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Ardyn Nordstrom: Insight Development Grant

Dr. Ardyn Nordstrom has also received the Insight Development Grant for her innovative project 鈥淪upporting Education During Crises: A Global Evaluation Using Machine Learning鈥. Her research will utilize advanced machine learning techniques to enhance educational support in times of crisis. This work aims to transform our approach to global educational challenges, offering new solutions for maintaining educational continuity during disruptions.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Jerald Sabin: Insight Grant

Dr. Jerald Sabin has been awarded the Insight Development Grant for his project 鈥淭ransformative Governance Models in Emerging Democracies鈥.  Dr. Sabin鈥檚 research focuses on developing and evaluating governance models that drive transformative change in emerging democracies. His work aims to contribute to more effective and equitable governance structures, enhancing democratic processes and policy development.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Anna Kopec: Insight Development Grant

Dr. Anna Kopec has received the Insight Development Grant for her project 鈥淭he (In)Visibility of Services: Mapping Homelessness Services in Ontario鈥. This important research will map and analyze the accessibility and visibility of homelessness services across Ontario. Dr. Kopec鈥檚 work is expected to provide crucial insights into improving the support systems and resource distribution for those experiencing homelessness.

 

 

 

 

 

These grants reflect the remarkable ingenuity and commitment to addressing pressing societal issues within the SPPA department. The innovative research of Dr. Hoffmann, Dr. Nordstrom, Dr. Sabin, and Dr. Kopec not only advances academic knowledge but also holds the potential to drive meaningful change in various fields.
