Indigenous Language Research From Northern Vancouver Island to Northern Quebec
Adjunct research professor Dr. Peter Wilson (ALDS PhD 2021) is currently in Port Hardy, B.-C. and plans to be there until the end of March. He is working in four areas: digitizing legacy materials, developing K-5 Kwak虝wala curriculum for a bilingual program in Campbell River, assisting the Gwa瘫sa瘫la-鈥楴akwaxda鈥檟瘫w Treaty department (Port Hardy) on place names and traditional resource use, and supporting the teachers at a small alternate public high school program in Port Hardy.
Adjunct research professor Dr. Cecile Planchon is working as a consultant to the Cree School Board in Quebec, designing and conducting a large Cree, English and French language assessment project. She is also working with Prof. Junker and Atikamekw partners on a thematic dictionary of the Atikamekw language to be published this Spring.
M.A. student Jeremie Ambroise is developing and teaching the first ever Innu translation program at the CEGEP in Sept-脦les, Quebec. He also continues working with Prof. Junker and Innu partners as a member of the Innu dictionary editorial board, holding weekly online meetings to make it a true 鈥渓iving dictionary鈥.
