Congratulations, Fall 2023 Graduates!

On Saturday, November 4, the �Ӱ�ԭ�� community came together to celebrate fall convocation, honouring students as they received their degrees.

Faculty and staff in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies are incredibly proud of all of the undergraduate and graduate students who have completed their degrees this fall.

We spoke with one of our Fall 2023 graduates, Chesha Marzenska, to learn more about her experience studying linguistics at �Ӱ�ԭ��.

“There have been so many interesting linguistics courses. I had to resist the urge to sign up for more,” she shares.

Chesha Marzenska, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Linguistics with a concentration in Linguistic Theory, is the recipient of a University Medal Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. This medal is awarded annually to the graduating students standing highest in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Chesha Marzenska

In the summer of 2022, Marzenska participated in an internship as part of a �Ӱ�ԭ�� University Research Opportunity Program (CUROP). Working with Professors Tamara Sorenson Duncan and Christie Brien, Marzenska researched the potential effects of masking on speech development in children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the internship, Marzenska went on to become a FASS Student Ambassador in 2022-2023.

“The LING and ALDS professors at �Ӱ�ԭ�� have been amazing educators and advisors,” Marzenska shares. “I will miss my professors and �Ӱ�ԭ��’s campus.”
