Multimodal in New Zealand
PhD candidate Chloë Grace Fogarty-Bourget is on the ground in New Zealand and ready to begin three-months of practical experience and specialized training with the Multimodal Research Centre (MRC) at Auckland University of Technology.
Recipient of a and , Chloë will be working and studying alongside host supervisor Dr. Sigrid Norris and colleagues at the MRC looking specifically at the analysis of video-recorded human interaction.
Chloë’s research focuses on student engagement in university mathematics lecturing and she plans to use the techniques and approaches to analysis she acquires at the Centre, to guide her in later research.
“I conduct research from a multimodal perspective, that is, the holistic study of language…discourse including gestures, facial display, movement, silence, images, sounds, spatial orientation, and so on” she says “and will be collecting and analyzing video data while I am there.”
She is also looking forward to taking part in the life of the academic community at AUT and to exploring everything New Zealand has to offer, especially now that the Kiwi summer has almost arrived.
