A Message from Leia Jones, SIGNALS President

Hello and happy New Year to everyone in the SIGNALS community! I hope that you had a restful holiday season and are staying safe during these challenging times. It is an absolute honour to be your next SIGNALS president, and I promise to do my best to ensure that SIGNALS delivers new and innovate events.

With this, I am thrilled to announce the release of the first volume of the SIGNALS newsletter. The idea for this newsletter was raised in our first meeting as a new Executive in the Fall and was something that everyone jumped on as the perfect way to communicate and engage with the larger SIGNALS community. We hope that you like the idea as much as we do and that it brings value to your lives and helps you to feel more connected to the SIGNALS community. As this is our first edition, we felt it was important to take the time to introduce the new SIGNALS Executive. The new team is composed of alumni, students from across the three streams of the Sustainable Energy program, and a professor. The new Executive was formed in late Fall, and we are following in the footsteps of former Presidents John McNally and Colin Gunning. We hope to continue their great work, whilst embarking on our own journey by creating new initiatives and launching new events. We hope to be more active on social media, sharing bi-weekly job postings, as well anything that catches our eye in the energy field. We are planning to go ahead with the annual SIGNALS gala (which will either be online or in-person depending on the latest COVID-19 situation), and we are planning a brand-new event around International Women’s day in March to highlight the impressive women in our community. We will also be running the mentorship program again this year. I am truly excited for everything that we have in store this year and believe that with the energy that the exec brings, signals will continue to grow and transform.

I hope you enjoy the first volume of the newsletter, and you can expect the next newsletter in the Spring. If anyone has any questions or concerns (or would just like to chat about SIGNALS, or anything at all) please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or anyone on the Executive. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you a little better.

Best,

Leia
