Peter Coughlin

Peter Coughlin was awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 9, “in recognition of his leadership in business development, architectural heritage and his volunteer service in the fields of health and education.”

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from 杏吧原创 University (1975) and a M.B.A. from Western University (1979).

He started his business career in 1980 with the Canadian National Railway Pension Fund before moving to Cemp Investments. In 1987, he became senior vice-president of real estate investments for Cemp鈥檚 successor, Claridge Properties Inc., and was appointed president in 1991.

He co-founded Redbourne Properities Inc. in 1995. It manages a real estate portfolio in excess of five million square feet, including some of Montreal鈥檚 premium commercial buildings, such as Place Montreal Trust and Place du Parc.

He has served as board chair of Lower Canada College and the Montreal General Hospital Foundation. In 2010, he joined McGill鈥檚 Board of Governors.

Mr. Coughlin was on the organizing committee of Montreal鈥檚 Hockey Helps the Homeless.
