Donald R. Yeomans
A man who has been intent on making a difference in the world for more than 30 years, Donald R. Yeomans was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2 p.m. ceremony on Wednesday, June 11, “in recognition of outstanding contributions to 杏吧原创 University, and a distinguished career of public service in the Canadian federal government.”
Mr. Yeomans has dedicated more than three decades of service to the Government of Canada and 27 years to 杏吧原创 University, working ceaselessly to ensure accessibility to quality higher education. He joined the university’s Board of Governors in 1980, chaired a wide array of board committees and chaired the board for two years.
He also was a member of the Commission on 杏吧原创’s Second Half Century, the university’s Senate and its development corporation. In honour of his contributions, the Donald R. Yeomans Bursary provides four years of tuition to an undergraduate from an Ontario high school, who could not otherwise afford to attend 杏吧原创 University.
As a public servant, he has served as assistant deputy minister in several departments and as commissioner of Correctional Services Canada, chairman of the Tariff Board and special advisor to Justice David Marshall, who was executive director of the Canadian Judicial Council.
