ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´

In compliance with Ontario’s Essential Services Order, Senate met remotely on May 28, 2021.  Here are the highlights:

Safe Return to Campus

Senators received a presentation on ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´â€™s plans for a safe and gradual Return to Campus in fall 2021.  In all planning, the health and safety of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ community has been the university’s guiding principle.  As confirmed at the last Senate meeting, ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ is preparing for a flexible fall 2021 term, where both in-person and online classes will be offered to students. For ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ employees, departments will return to campus in stages as to limit the amount of in-person interaction and allow for physical distancing measures. Topics covered included the preparation of buildings, supplies, policies and procedures, vaccinations and accommodations. All plans are flexible and are subject to evolving Provincial guidelines and health and safety requirements.

Reputational Enhancement Project

Tony Frost, Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and Associate Vice-President (Communications and Public Affairs), provided Senate an update on ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´â€™s Reputational Enhancement Project (REP).  After completing the Research and Brand Strategy Development stages, ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ is currently in phase three of the project: Creative Development. Preliminary reputational campaign designs showcased bold, eye-catching, consistent visuals. Senators expressed support for the project.

Chair’s Remarks

President Bacon began the meeting by relaying the encouraging news of Ontario’s reopening plan commencing in the week of June 14, and that ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´â€™s Health and Counselling Services will start administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ community on June 2. Additional updates included the launch of Brightspace by D2L, the funding , the appointment of ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´â€™s inaugural Director for the Centre for Community Engagement and the City of Ottawa’s participation in the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´-led .  Additionally, the student recipients of the Provost Scholar and were congratulated.

New Certificate in Wellness and Mental Health Approved

Senate approved a new Certificate in Multidisciplinary Studies in Mental Health and Well-Being.  The certificate will be offered in the 2021/’22 academic year.

Graduate Supervision Appointments Policy Approved

On the recommendation of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs (FGPA) Faculty Board, ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´â€™s revised Graduate Supervision Appointments Policy was approved by Senate.

Welcome Peter Andrée

Senate ratified the faculty appointment of Peter Andrée, Faculty of Public Affairs, for a three-year term beginning on July 1, 2021.

Call for Nominations: Senate Standing Committees

Senate has released a Call for Nominations for faculty, undergraduate and graduate students to serve on a number of Senate Standing Committees. The term of office begins on July 1, 2021. If eligibility requirements are met, positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Senator Spotlight: Crina Viju-Miljusevic

Senate is composed of over 80 members representing the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ community like Crina Viju-Miljusevic, Associate Professor in the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies. Learn more about Crina.
