Neil Saldanha completed his MASc in Mechanical Engineering in 2010. He measured the electrical demand patterns of a dozen Ottawa-area house at 1-minute intervals and combined these data with a new model he developed to represent the energy performance of lithium-ion batteries.
This research work was published in articles in Energy and Buildings and Applied Energy. (Refer to the for the full citations.) The detailed electrical demand profiles produced by his work are available to other researchers upon request.
After completing his MASc degree, Neil worked for on the development of its smart WiFi enabled thermostat before moving to California to take up a position with Tesla and then Lyft, where he is currently working on battery, motor, and powertrain systems for electric bikes.
