The research placement is an outreach trademark of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship projects. Each QE Scholar will spend 30% of their award period working with a research placement partner. The partnership will provide an opportunity for the scholar to create linkages with industry, community, and international partners and explore new opportunities for applying your research. 杏吧原创’s QES-AS-WA project is working closely with partners through all stages of program development and scholar selection.
Please review our placement opportunities below. Be sure to include your preferred placement option within your application package with a detailed explanation of how your research aligns with that of the placement partner. Please note the language requirements associated with each placement.

- African Institute for Mathematical Sciences
-
Founded in 2003, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for innovative scientific training, technical advances and breakthrough discoveries and public engagement in Mathematical Sciences. Through the Next Einstein Initiative, AIMS鈥檚 ecosystem continues to be expanded across Africa with centres in South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Rwanda, as well as chapters in Canada and Europe. AIMS鈥檚 mission is to enable Africa鈥檚 brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa鈥檚 future scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency.
AIMS has trained over 2,200 young Africans, representing 43 African countries and 32% women in mathematical sciences. AIMS continues to develop capacities in STEM on the continent by training the next generation of African leaders in education, research and industry. To strengthen the employability skills of young Africans, AIMS has designed and successfully implemented several work-integrated learning (WIL), entrepreneurship and innovation programs across the network including the Cooperative Master program at AIMS centres in Cameroon, Rwanda and Senegal. AIMS is an institutional member of the World Association for Cooperative Education (WACE).

- CODE

CODE works to promote every child鈥檚 right to read. We are part of a global movement catalyzed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to 鈥渆nsure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.鈥 CODE is committed to addressing an important part of the solution 鈥 and one of the most significant challenges standing in the way: teacher effectiveness 鈥 the single most important predictor of student learning.
Through work with local writers, teachers, publishers and librarians we seek to support and sustain the development of literacy learning in K-12 schools. Through the development and distribution of high quality books — and teachers聽 who know how to teach with them in classrooms– we help young people explore, interact with, discover and reflect on the world around them. This requires strong local publishing and greater understanding of the processes of learning to read 鈥 and teaching to read — and the kinds of books that children need at each stage as they develop their literacy skills and become life-long readers.
CODE supports research on issues that are 聽identified in collaboration with the African literacy and teacher education communities in order to help build a body of evidence that can be used to support education policy recommendations at local, regional, or national levels. This includes:
- advancing local literacy practices;
- advancing context specific ways of knowing;
- the intersection between literacy, education, and girls鈥 empowerment;
- the role that pre-service teacher education and in-service professional development plays in strengthening the educational opportunities for girls and vulnerable populations;
- the relationship between the school, the home, and the community and the role this plays in strengthening culturally relevant literacies;
- the impact of digital literacies as well as the use of technology in teacher education and classroom learning;
- the factors and/or interventions that contribute to reducing barriers to quality education for women and girls: with disabilities; in fragile, conflict, refugee and crisis situations; and/or in relation to the impact of the COVID pandemic
- access to quality education for refugees and internally displaced populations in Sub-Saharan Africa

We work through five focus areas:
1) Regulatory and Legal Reform;
