MPPA, ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University
HBASc in Criminology, Lakehead University
BA in Psychology, Lakehead University
What is it specifically that attracted you to study Political Economy at ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´?
Three things attracted me to ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´’s MA in Political Economy: (1) the ability to keep working with the Professor I worked with during my MPPA; (2) the chance to complete a thesis; and (3) having minimal coursework requirements before moving on to thesis research.
My areas of research interest include…
Private governance; standards; certifications; artificial intelligence; regulation; incorporation by reference
What activities have you been involved in lately?
I am currently the Consulting Scientist for the International Panel on the Information Environment’s Panel on Global Standards for AI Audits. Before this, I was a Research Fellow in AI Governance, Law, and Policy at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University working on soft law’s application to AI governance efforts where I managed a team to produce two large datasets, six academic articles, and nine policy briefs. Before this position, I was a Research and Policy Analyst at the Responsible AI Institute (RAII) where I helped develop all components of their Responsible AI Certification Program. Alongside my RAII work, I contributed to ongoing international AI standards development through ISO, particularly their recently published ISO 42001 AI Management System standard. Before my work, I completed an MPPA at ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University, where I was a Canada Graduate Scholar, Ontario Graduate Scholar, Social Innovation Fellow, and Visiting Scholar at UC Davis School of Law.
What advice would you give to a prospective Political Economy graduate student?
Apply for everything, ask for help when needed, and always write as clear and concisely as possible.
