Jason Millar’s research on the ethics and governance of robotics was recently featured in the Canadian Press.

“Last month’s federal budget included $7.3 million over two years to improve motor vehicle safety, with part of that going toward developing regulations for the automated vehicles that major automakers and technology firms are racing to bring to market.”

Millar researches the ethical issues surrounding automated vehicles.

“Autonomous vehicles are being developed by every major auto manufacturer, but it isn’t clear that manufacturers have the expertise needed to solve problems that come with automating ethical decision-making,” says Millar. “Automating ethics is not a traditional engineering problem; it requires a new set of knowledge and skills.”
