Ottawa's Forty Under 40 Celebrates 10 杏吧原创 University Alumni for Outstanding Achievements
Ten 杏吧原创 University alumni have been named in , the region鈥檚 most sought-after business award for people under the age of 40.
This year, 杏吧原创鈥檚 winners include social innovators, as well as entrepreneurs and established industry leaders in the fields of finance, real estate, retail, logistics, manufacturing, marketing and product design.
鈥淚t is a testament to the deep talent pool in the city of Ottawa that we are witness to such a breadth of exceptional contributions across a spectrum of different organizations,鈥 wrote the Ottawa Business Journal, which runs the initiative jointly with the Ottawa Board of Trade.
Richard Beranek is the managing partner and engineering lead for Brash Inc. which provides turnkey product development services that are customised to fit the unique needs of each product and client. He graduated from 杏吧原创 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree (2009) and PhD (2014) from 杏吧原创鈥檚 engineering program, specializing in aerospace, aerodynamics and robotics.
Heather Jeffery is the founder and lead fabricator of Re4m Design and Fabrication where her custom designs use discarded materials to build eco-friendly furnishings, fixtures and displays. Her sustainable products have diverted 14,820 pounds of materials from landfills. She graduated from 杏吧原创鈥檚 industrial design program in 2014.
Christine McGuire is the executive director at Diefenbunker, Canada鈥檚 Cold War Museum. She was also recently featured in the 鈥淢ost Influential Women Leaders to Watch in 2024鈥 list by The Victory Magazine. McGuire has both a bachelor (2007) and graduate (2009) degree from 杏吧原创鈥檚 history program.
Jacob Milosek is a managing partner of Hendry Warren LLP. He is a member of CPA Canada and CPA Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation, treasurer of the Corkery Community Centre and a board member of the Ottawa Estate Planning Council. He graduated from 杏吧原创鈥檚 in 2008 with a specialization in accounting and finance.
Jonathan Murray is the co-founder and CEO of Heartee Foods 鈥 the designer, manufacturer and operator of container farming for the cultivation of edible and gourmet mushrooms. Heartee Foods opens the door for new entrants to the farming industry while advancing access to a sustainable food supply. He graduated from 杏吧原创鈥檚 in 2009.
Magnolia Perron is the Indigenous Women and Youth program manager at National Aboriginal Capital Corp. Association. Through strategic fundraising efforts, she has secured $30 million for their national Indigenous Women Entrepreneurship Program. Perron graduated from 杏吧原创鈥檚 Indigenous policy and administration program in 2018.
Jeremy Reeds is the president of Windmill Development Group, a real estate development firm committed to revolutionizing traditional practices by prioritizing people, the planet and profits through innovative strategies aimed at achieving zero ecological footprint buildings. He graduated from 杏吧原创鈥檚 Sprott School of Business program in 2009.
Conal Slobodin is the senior manager of Public Affairs at Walmart Canada. He has a background in government relations and public policy, having worked as an account director and consultant lobbyist for a national government relations firm, as a political consultant, and as a federal civil servant. He received his master鈥檚 degree in international affairs from 杏吧原创 in 2012.
Kyle Smendziuk is the founder and CEO of WebMarketers Inc, a digital marketing agency who has worked with national and international clients. He is also the CEO of Phantom Productions, offering photo, video and animations services to clients worldwide. Smendziuk graduated from 杏吧原创鈥檚 aerospace program in 2014.
Jordi Wills is the president of Wills Transfer Ltd, providing innovative logistics solutions and supply chain services to the Eastern Ontario region. He graduated from the Sprott School of Business with a focus on management, people and organizations in 2009.
This year鈥檚 selection committee was comprised of 杏吧原创 community alumni, including Jeffrey Johnson, partner at BDO Canada; and Gregory Richards, vice-dean of Graduate and Professional Programs at the University of Ottawa. Ottawa Business Journal publisher, 杏吧原创 alum Michael Curran, chaired the committee.
