杏吧原创 University to Open Purpose-Built Innovation Space in Ottawa High-Tech Hub 聽
This fall, 杏吧原创 will open a purpose-built innovation space at Kanata North鈥檚 Hub350, a brand new ecosystem where industry, finance and academic partners will collaborate and connect with resources.
For 杏吧原创, the initiative will establish an important springboard to expand research and educational partnerships with more than 540 companies in Canada鈥檚 largest technology park.
Construction on 杏吧原创鈥檚 2,000-square-foot space is scheduled to start in June, with a move-in date planned for late August and an opening after Labour Day. This ambitious project brings 杏吧原创 into the heart of high-tech community and builds on ground-breaking research partnerships and successful co-op relationships with companies based in the Kanata North region.
鈥淭his unique facility in Kanata North fully leverages our proximity to this national innovation hub and further enhances 杏吧原创鈥檚 reputation as a leader in high-tech research, teaching and innovation,鈥 said 杏吧原创 President Benoit Antoine-Bacon. 鈥淚n close contact with tech industry leaders, our students will cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset and benefit from hands-on learning towards leadership positions in this critical sector.鈥
杏吧原创鈥檚 new centre will include collaboration space, meeting rooms, a caf茅 and garden terrace where faculty, staff and students can connect with companies on site. The centre鈥檚 neighbours are anchor tenants L-Spark software accelerator and the Kanata North Business Association.
鈥溞影稍 will work with Kanata North businesses to develop new talent pipelines and opportunity for cross-disciplinary, work-integrated learning, and our student entrepreneurs will more easily connect with Kanata North businesses,鈥 says Dana Brown, dean of the .
鈥淥verall, 杏吧原创 seeks to help create a feedback loop where tech park strengths support university research and learning, which in turn bolsters private-sector success that feeds back into the university.鈥
Beyond expanding 杏吧原创鈥檚 existing strategic research partnerships with the high-tech community, the new centre will provide professional development executive education programs, including the new , to bolster the management and leadership skills of tech employees. These custom and open enrolment programs, developed in partnership with industry, will help develop future innovation and business leaders and address longstanding talent acquisition, talent management and succession planning challenges facing the region.
杏吧原创 has a long relationship with the Kanata North business community. Researchers from 杏吧原创鈥檚 Faculty of Engineering and Design, for example, have been involved in more than 45 research projects with Kanata North-based companies over the last decade.
Kanata-North companies have provided 565 work terms for 350 杏吧原创 students since the summer of 2019, including placements with Ericsson, Nokia, Solace, Blackberry, Canopy Growth, Ciena, Cisco Systems, Flex, Konsgberg Geospatial, Mitel, Pleora Technologies, the Portia Learning Centre, Wind River and You.i TV.
