杏吧原创 Stands in Solidarity with Indigenous Communities

July 13, 2021

杏吧原创 University is profoundly saddened by the discovery of 160 undocumented and unmarked graves near the former KuperIsland industrial school on what is now Penelakut Island.

The 杏吧原创 community stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities, students, faculty and staff as we remember the survivors of the residential school system, and with the families of those whose children never returned to them.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic finding, and campus flags remain lowered to honour the spirit of each child.

At 杏吧原创, we encourage our Indigenous students to continue in their studies during this difficult time and to seek support if they are in need. There are resources to help.

Indigenous students can contact the Centre for Indigenous Initiatives to book an appointment with Indigenous Counsellor Rylee Godin: Rylee can be reached at ryleegodin@cunet.carleton.ca.

Students can also reach out to Health and Counselling Services: 杏吧原创 Health & Counselling Walk-In Clinic Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The 24-hour Indian Residential School Crisis Line is at 1-866-925-4419.

Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) (for faculty and staff): (613) 725-5676. After hours emergencies: 1-844-720-1212

The Wabano Centre has a walk-in and urgent care clinic, call 613-748-0657. After hours crisis line: 613-722-6914.
