Canadian Foreign Policy Journal Examines Canadian Foreign Policy and Systemism

December 21, 2021

杏吧原创 University鈥檚 David Carment, senior fellow at the Institute for Peace and Diplomacy, professor at 杏吧原创 Universitry鈥檚   (NPSIA) and editor of the  (CFPJ), has released the newest issue of CFPJ focused on the most pressing issues involving Canadian foreign policy and systemism today.

The issue features a number of articles from emerging and established scholars. The issue is guest edited by Sarah Gansen and Patrick James, both from the University of Southern California.

The lead article by Gansen and James uses The Politics of Canadian Foreign Policy, to introduce systemism as a graphic approach toward communication by providing a one-page diagram that sums up its arguments 鈥 in effect, a visual abstract.  Gansen and James also discuss the substantive contributions in the issue, also in graphic form, including: the study of regime change, treatment of different non-state actors, evolution of politico-economic policy, development of a specific policy area, and in connection with foreign policy analysis.

Other important articles in this issue reflect on what has been accomplished, on an individual and collective basis, by the preceding applications of systemism. This is followed by a brief summation from Gansen and James that focuses on what has been learned from the articles in tandem with the commentaries upon them.

鈥淭he purpose of this special issue is to show how systemism, an easily accessible means toward graphic communication, can help scholars in Canadian foreign policy communicate more effectively with each other and those beyond the field,鈥 said James.

鈥淭he issue brings together the work of scholars from critical, as well as problem-solving traditions, and moves the field of Canadian foreign policy forward in an innovative way,鈥 adds Gansen.
