Monitoring COVID-19 at 杏吧原创: Taking Precautions

To All Members of the 杏吧原创 Community,

As the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to raise concerns around the globe, 杏吧原创 University is continuing to closely follow the advice provided by and other health agencies such as the and .

At this time, the Public Health Agency of Canada continues to assess the risk associated with COVID-19 as low for Canada. 杏吧原创 is continuing to be proactive and diligent in mitigating future risks to our community and encourages members of the community to follow to reduce the spread of germs, including staying at home if you are sick.

In alignment with the Government of Canada鈥檚 Travel Health Notices, the university has restricted travel to China, Iran, northern Italy, as well as Daegu and Cheongdo in South Korea, until further notice.

As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, all members of the 杏吧原创 community who plan on travelling should:

  • Follow the and continue to monitor the Government of Canada鈥檚 Travel Advice and Advisories for the most-up-to-date information prior to departure.
    • Register with International SOS.
    • If travelling from outside of Canada, please follow .
    • If travelling from an affected area, please avoid crowded spaces such as the 杏吧原创 campus for 14 days and continue to monitor your health. Please immediately contact if you experience any symptoms.
    • Seek accommodations if required. Faculty and staff should contact their supervisor and students should contact vpstudents@carleton.ca.

    A COVID-19 working committee comprised of stakeholders from across campus has been meeting bi-weekly to identify planning and action items to ensure the safety of all community members. They include:

    • The International Student Services Office is in regular contact with students currently on exchange in newly affected areas and around the globe.
    • Facilities Management and Planning (FMP) is monitoring the cleaning practices across campus which includes ensuring all hand sanitizers are filled, and all washrooms and common areas remain clean and sanitary. FMP is also deploying handwashing signs in all bathrooms.
    • Health and Counselling Services has implemented isolation protocols in the event of a COVID-19 incident. There is signage at the front door advising patients to contact Ottawa Public Health if they have travelled to affected areas and are feeling unwell. Receptionists and nursing staff are also asking for the travel history of every client who visits the clinic.
    • A dedicated website has been created with answers to , which will be updated as new information and guidance becomes available from the health agencies.
