杏吧原创鈥檚 Past President, Richard Van Loon, to Present: Hard Travel: Alexander MacKenzie from Canada by Land July 1793
For more than 6,000 years, the St. Lawrence and Ottawa valleys formed the major highway leading to the interior of North America. This talk, by 杏吧原创鈥檚 past President Richard Van Loon and the Ottawa Society for the Arts and Sciences (OSFAS), will focus on the travellers and traders who moved west, with the support of First Nations, in the 18th century culminating in Alexander MacKenzie鈥檚 epic voyage to the Pacific in 1793.

杏吧原创 Richard Van Loon
Van Loon is the past president of 杏吧原创 and past chair of the Council of Ontario Universities. He joined 杏吧原创 in 1970 as an assistant professor of Political Science and has held faculty positions in 杏吧原创鈥檚 School of Public Policy and Administration where he is a professor emeritus. He is also a member of the Faculty of Administration at the University of Ottawa. He was associate deputy minister of Health Canada and of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and held several assistant deputy minister positions in the Canadian federal government.
