Paying homage to ACB Canadians of years past shows society’s appreciation and ensures their efforts do not go unnoticed. During Black History Month, Canadians should not only focus on the past, but take the time to empower and honour contemporary ACB Canadians as they pave the way for future generations.

Throughout history, black Canadians – such as Viola Desmond – have made social impacts that society benefits from today. While celebrating the past, this event also seeks to honour ACB people who are contributing to Canada’s social fabric and making a positive impact today.

The celebration will feature keynote addresses from Ottawa Police Insp. Isobel Granger and Ottawa ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ District School (OCDSB) Board Director, Camille Williams-Taylor. ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´â€™s Institute of African Studies will be recognized on its 10-year anniversary and a tribute to the late  Prof. Pius Adesanmi will be delivered. An expert panel will discuss the topic: How can we empower our ACB people in our contemporary moments?

The event will include performances by Jamaal The Poet and the Throne Seekers, plus a fashion show by the Montreal Nigerian Canadian Association (NCA). Certificates of recognition and student bursaries will be awarded to ACB leaders in honour of their achievements and impact.
