Landon Pearson has championed children’s rights in Canada at key and pivotal moments for more than 60 years and continues to be actively involved on 杏吧原创 University’s campus, mentoring students and connecting children’s rights colleagues through the Child Rights Academic Network (CRAN).
The Landon Pearson Resource Centre for the Study of Childhood and Children鈥檚 Rights was established in June 2006鈥攁nd with Pearson herself at the helm鈥攃ontinues her important work, engaging with children’s rights scholars, activists, advocates, practitioners, legal and medical professionals, as well as children to ensure that they are aware of their rights and are able to exercise them within a receptive and mutually respectful society.
The Landon Pearson Centre proudly promotes a rights-respecting approach in all of their activities, enabling children鈥檚 and young people鈥檚 participation through exemplary rights-based activities, acts as the institutional memory-holder regarding the development of children鈥檚 rights in Canada, supports key areas including teaching, research, mentorship, collaboration and knowledge dissemination, and offers a place for creative engagement for all:
- Teaching: Fosters a culture of respect by improving understanding and awareness of children鈥檚 rights.
- Research: Supports quality research and knowledge mobilization efforts. The Centre maintains a specific research focus on Indigenous children鈥檚 rights and research.
- Mentorship: Offers opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate scholars through mentorship and student engagement.
- Collaboration: Supports organizations working to build local, national and international partnerships.
- Outreach: Enhances and supports capacity-building for the full implementation and monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Canada.
