Fourth Annual CyberSCI – Cyber Security Challenge Gives Students a Chance to Win Paid Internships

In a world where we hear about computer systems being attacked all too often, it’s reassuring to know there are organizations that are doing something about it. There are also schools giving students a chance to learn more about how to prevent these malicious intrusions. That’s where CyberSCI – Cyber Security Challenge Canada steps in to merge these groups in an engaging competition.
On Saturday, November 23, 2019, Bank of Canada, BriteSky, CGI, Bell, and Rigel Kent Security, are sponsoring select students from ÐÓ°ÉÔ´´ University, University of Ottawa, Algonquin College, and La Cité to compete. The challenge is to attack a vulnerable computer network, break through its cyber defences, take control of the systems and advise the fictitious company on how to defend against the attackers.
The challenge is real for the winning teams of students, as they then have the opportunity to interview for paid intern positions with the sponsor companies. CybserSCI – Cyber Security Challenge Canada was founded in 2011 by Tom Levasseur, senior security consultant with the Government of Canada, to address the shortage of skilled resources in Canada’s cyber workforce. CyberSCI has grown to include competitions not only in Ottawa, but also Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Saskatoon, where we source those city’s universities and colleges to send their best, brightest and most curious students to compete in the events.
New this year, winners from each region will be invited to compete in our Canadian national CyberSCI finals in Ottawa in April 2020. In addition, we have secured an invitation for our top two Canadian teams to participate in the European Cyber Security Challenge, as a guest country, at their European finals in Vienna, Austria in November 2020.
